WBR Yamaha’s Seth Burchell, barnstormed his way through the opening two rounds of the Australian Supercross Championship with two dominant race wins to take control of the SX3 championship.
The double header opening weekend held at Kayo Stadium in Brisbane saw Burchell win both SX3 Main events for the perfect weekend at establish a handy gap in the championship chase with two rounds completed.Burchell was quick right from the get go and then produced two sensational starts in the main events to never be headed and take the win on both nights in similar yet emphatic fashion. He was able to break clear of the early race chaos, keep clear of any incidents and then set sail for the checkered flag.
It was Burchell’s first major win at an Australian Supercross Championship round and one he would like to replicate at the coming rounds.
“I came into the weekend feeling pretty good on the bike and hoping to do well, but I never expected to win on each night, so I’m pretty pumped right now,” he beams. “I was able to get good starts all weekend and put myself in good positions when it mattered and was so good to not make any mistakes and get on top of the podium both nights.
“Thanks to the team for all the hard work as my bike was awesome all weekend and now I cant wait to do it all again at Wollongong for round three, he ends.
Koby Hantis does what he does best and put together another solid weekend of racing to sit fourth in the championship after two rounds. Hantis is relatively in experienced at supercross and missed last years series due to injury but showed he has promise and finished the weekend with 8-3 results to have him fourth in the standings.
He improved each time on the track and the podium result on night two showed his learning curve is steep.
“It was a pretty good start to the championship and I felt better with each race. My starts weren’t where they needed to be so that is something I will need to be better at for the coming rounds but overall, there were a lot of good things I can take from the weekend and continue to build from here,” Hantis ends.
It was a mixed weekend for Kayd Kingsford who showed blistering speed but also made some costly mistakes at important times. Kingsford charged to a third place on night one but was right in the heat of the battle for the lead when he went down, then on night two, he was again moving forward in the early stages of the race when he fell heavily in the whoops.
Kobe Drew endured a tough weekend and just couldn’t get a good flow going on the tight kayo Stadium circuit. Drew finished with 15-7 results each night and was disappointed he wasn’t able to produce a better showing on each night.
Round three of the championship now moves to WIN Stadium at Wollongong on November 2 where the WBR Yamaha team will be looking to build on their results from the opening weekend.
